­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­DRPG Empowers The Westminster School Students Through Creative Industry Programme for Special Educational Needs

Creative communications agency DRPG has continued its commitment to giving back to the community with a creative initiative for The Westminster School in Rowley Regis, West Midlands. Through a hands-on workshop series, students were introduced to the world of media production, culminating in a live broadcast entirely designed, operated, and presented by the students themselves.

This initiative aims to inspire young minds with special educational needs and open doors to careers in the creative industry. Across three sessions, students explored and executed roles such as camera operators, scriptwriters, animation designers, and broadcast directors, receiving mentorship from DRPG’s experts at every step.

The programme began at The Westminster School with an interactive session led by DRPG’s Live Strategy and Experience Director, Richard Davies and Project Co-ordinator Jemma Goode, introducing students to the opportunities in creative communications. The next two sessions took place at DRPG’s state-of-the-art Studio 212 in Hartlebury, where students collaborated with professionals to plan, design, and rehearse their live show.

The grand finale on December 4 saw the students deliver a 20-minute live broadcast streamed to their peers, parents, and teachers which featured personal interviews about school life, a student music performance and a Q&A with the teachers.

Oliver Flowers, Head Teacher at The Westminster School said, “This programme has been an incredible opportunity for our students to explore their creativity and gain real-world experience in a professional setting. Watching them step into these roles with such confidence and enthusiasm has been truly inspiring. We’re grateful to DRPG for providing this unique and invaluable experience.”

Senior Graphic Designer, Steve Law who was one of the DRPG mentors commented, “Seeing the enthusiasm, talent, and determination of these young people has been truly inspiring. By providing hands-on experience and industry insights, we hope to ignite a passion for the creative sector and show that anything really is possible with the right mindset and support.”

This programme is part of a series of community and charity work that the group is committed to this year and into 2025 as it sets to celebrate 45 years of business and DRPG’s legacy of CSR projects.
