The Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow will welcome the IEEE CleanTech Summit 2025 this week, marking the start of a landmark series of IEEE conferences set to take place at the venue over the next two years.
The inaugural CleanTech Summit will convene global leaders in engineering, science, and technology to address urgent sustainability challenges. Topics on the programme include renewable energy integration, smart grid innovation, energy storage, and decarbonisation pathways for industry. The Summit is designed to connect researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders to accelerate clean technology solutions at scale.
This event continues a partnership that will see the SEC host three future major IEEE conferences in 2026 and 2027 including the return of the IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC) – one of the IEEE Communications Society’s two flagship conferences, attracting 3,000+ global researchers annually.
IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organisation, with over 486,000 members across 190 countries. Its events are recognised globally as platforms for advancing science, technology, and knowledge exchange – which is closely aligned with Glasgow’s strong academic and research foundation.
A Proven Venue for Global Events
The SEC’s selection as host for these IEEE events reinforces its position as one of Europe’s leading international conference venues. In recent years, the campus has delivered major meetings, including COP26 in 2021, the Interpol General Assembly 2024, and the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) Congress 2025, attracting tens of thousands of delegates to the city and showcasing Glasgow’s ability to deliver events of scale and complexity.
These events will bring thousands of international delegates to Glasgow, supporting Scotland’s economy and knowledge sector while underlining the SEC’s expertise in delivering events that matter.
Marie Hunter, Managing Director of Conferences, Events and Experiences at IEEE, said:
“At IEEE we represent a global community and it’s essential we meet where they are – Glasgow is one of those places. The SEC brings much more than logistics – it’s a partner that understands our values and what we aim to accomplish. Glasgow is a city we love, and the SEC is a venue we trust.”
Kathleen Warden, Director of Conference Sales at the SEC, said:
“We are delighted to welcome the IEEE CleanTech Summit to the SEC this week. This conference is closely aligned with Glasgow’s strengths in sustainability and renewables, demonstrated by the city reaching number 5 in the Global Destination Sustainability (GDS) Index for 2025! This summit is one of a landmark series of IEEE conferences, and we look forward to creating impactful experiences for their members who are shaping the future of global technology.”
Alieen Crawford, Head of Tourism and Conventions at Glasgow Convention Bureau said:
“Over the last 35 years, Glasgow has been the proud host of over 50 IEEE conferences. This is a partnership that has grown over time, supported by senior IEEE academic members based here. Glasgow’s links to IEEE encouraged the Convention Bureau to design and produce a bespoke IEEE Glasgow tartan in celebration of this prestigious ‘clan’ of electronic engineering experts.”
